War Memorial site Improvements
Resurfacing work at the War Memorial site at Hetton-le-Hole was completed ahead of Armistice Day on 11 November.
Councillor Susan Waterston, Mayor of Hetton said “ After several years of campaigning by the Town Council, I’m delighted to announce that works to hard-surface the site are now completed. Thanks go to Graeme Keedy, Town Clerk for his efforts in helping to achieve this outcome, to Sunderland City Council for granting permission and especially to Bellway Homes (North East) for carrying out the necessary work free of charge.”
Lawrence Rowe, from veteran’s organisation the Fellowship of Services added “The Town Council has worked tirelessly on behalf of veterans to seek improvements and we are very pleased with the result which makes the site much safer.”
Miles Crossley, Land Director at Bellway Homes (North East) commented “We are extremely proud to be building our sustainable, high quality family homes in the area.
“We are equally as proud to give something back to the community which contributes to a day which means so much to so many people.”
The Town Council’s established Armistice Day commemoration took place at the site on Monday 11 November.
