Hetton Town Council freezes precept for fifth year

Hetton Town Council has agreed not to increase its’ precept for 2023-2024, the fifth successive year without change.

Councillors have accepted the recommendation of the Council’s Management, Policy & Finance Committee to approve a zero increase.

The decision will mean that households of Band D properties will continue to pay £14.46 annually (equivalent to just £1.20 a month) – the same amount that they

were charged in 2022-2023 and the previous three years. Households of all other bands will also see no increase.

Commenting on the decision, Town Mayor Councillor Dave Geddis said “The Town Council recognises the impact on local families of the continuing effects of higher inflation on day-to-day household costs and the hardship being caused. The Town Council aims to again help the community by keeping costs down.”

Councillor Richard Elvin, Committee Chairman added “Through careful financial management, the Town Council is pleased to be in a position that does not require households to pay more in 23-24; helping to benefit the community in these difficult times.”
